Janie Jones
Psychotherapist for Individuals and Couples
Janie is a warm, trauma-informed therapist-in-training who approaches her work with curiosity, compassion, and a deep belief in each patient's capacity for growth. Her therapeutic style is rooted in psychodynamic and humanistic traditions, with a focus on empowering patients to become the agents of change in their own lives. She strives to create a collaborative, affirming space where individuals feel seen, heard, and supported as they explore their inner worlds and life experiences.
Janie takes an integrative approach and draws from a range of evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and the Gottman Method for couples work. She has a special interest in supporting both individuals and couples as they navigate relational challenges, life transitions, identity exploration, and the lasting effects of trauma. Janie believes that therapy is a deeply collaborative process and works alongside each patient to tailor the work to their unique goals, values, and lived experiences.
In addition to Janie's areas of special focus, she is qualified and experienced in treating a wide range of mental health concerns, including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, panic, OCD, PTSD, trauma, grief, burnout, couples and family issues, relationship difficulties, personality disorders, eating disorders, addictive disorders (including alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling, and food), ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, dissociative disorders, psychotic disorders, chronic illness adjustment, sleep disorders, somatic conditions, work and career stress, identity and existential concerns, perfectionism, cultural and racial identity stress, and life transitions. Using an eclectic range of evidence-based approaches, she provides compassionate, individualized care tailored to every patient she serves.
Janie has a strong foundation in mental health counseling through her graduate school training at New York University. She also earned her undergraduate degree from California Polytechnic State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Ethnic Studies and a Minor in Psychology. Her professional and volunteer experience reflects a sustained commitment to social justice, healing, and community care. Janie currently serves as Alumni Advancement Coordinator at Make-A-Wish Metro New York, where she supports families navigating their child's health journey and coordinates post-wish resources.
Previously, she interned with the Global Head of HR at Cerberus Capital Management, where she partnered on a large-scale initiative to develop mental health programming and leadership training for young women. Earlier in her career, she served as a law clerk at the Los Angeles County Courthouse, led weekly art-based programming for youth at the San Luis Obispo County Juvenile Hall through Restorative Partners, and worked with Red Earth Rising in Troncones, Mexico, supporting women affected by domestic violence through vocational training and educational programming. Janie has additional training in conflict resolution and restorative practices, including ongoing participation in Planning Change’s two-year mediation training toward New York State mediation certification.
